"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
2 Corinthians 5:17
We are a congregation of the Lord’s church in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Our goal is simple; fulfill the Lord’s will through obedience to His word, and helping others to do so. I Corinthians 4:6 admonishes the brethren to not go beyond that which is written. We as the church of Christ speak where the bible speaks, and remain silent where it is silent. We encourage everyone who values the pure, unaltered word of God to pay us a visit, and worship with us. We observe the Lord’s Communion every Sunday during our 10am service, and are happy to welcome visitors.
What must I do to be saved? In our effort to go unto all the world and preach the gospel (Mark 16:15), we encourage all to ask the question, “what must I do to be saved?” The answer is found in scripture, and begins with the need for faith in the word of the Lord. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.- Hebrews 11:6.
Hopefully, this belief will prompt action; a desire to submit to those things which God teaches. In Acts 2, those who crucified Christ were “pricked in their hearts and asked, ‘men and brethren, what shall we do’?” One’s belief in the word of God ought to prompt us to repentance; a desire to change for His service.
Further reading will reveal that those who wish to be saved must also confess the name of Christ as the son of God, according to Romans 10:10, "For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Finally, a person who truly wants to be saved must be baptized for the remission of their sins. In Acts 8:36, the Ethiopian eunuch asked Phillip, “’See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?’ Then Phillip said, ‘If you believe with all your heart, you may.’ And he answered and said, ‘I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.’ So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Phillip and the eunuch went down into the water and he baptized him.”In I Peter 3:21, the apostle said, “There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism.”
Once a person has taken these steps, they may rest with a good conscience knowing that their soul is saved, and they have been added to the church, Acts 2:47. If you would like to study these things with us, know that we daily pray for the opportunity to do so. Please consult our contact section so that we might study the Bible together.
